For those people who play the great SimCity™* game and keep on running out of money, or could do so much more with a little more money, or just love to cheat, I wrote this little program to allow them to do just that. Simply open your city, specify how much money you want, and your interest-free, infinite term loan is granted on the spot!
Compatibility
This program should work on any Macintosh. I have only tried it on a Mac Plus at present, but it should work on the others also. Let me know if you have any problems, and I’ll try to fix them.
Instructions
The use of this program is very straight forward: once you launch it, you are prompted for a SimCity file to open, and given the opportunity to quit. Select the file you wish to modify (i.e. the city you want to give an infinite-term loan to) and click Open as usual (or double-click on the filename).
You are then told how much money the city currently has and asked what you would like to change it to—note that this is the total amount, not the additional (loan) amount, e.g. if you had $527 before running this program and wanted to increase it by $2000, you’d type 2527, not 2000. If you type an invalid number, an appropriate alert message will pop up.
Once you click OK to this dialog, the changes are made, if possible. If for some reason the program is unable to save the new amount to the file, (e.g. the disk is locked), it will report the problem and let you start again. If all is well, it will tell you so and return you to the file dialog to select another file to modify or quit.
Limitations & Known Problems
This is called the Unlimited SimCity Bank, so there are no limitations!! Well, not quite, anyway. You are limited to a maximum of $999999999 (I hope that’s enough!!). I’m not aware of any problems from my alpha or beta testing, but if you come across any problems, please let me know.
Future Enhancements
Any ideas? I’m reasonably satisfied how it came out, but if you would like some improvement done, let me know, and I’ll see what I can do.
1.0d: 13-14 Jan 1991 Developmental version to implement spec.
1.0b1: 9 Feb 1991 Some minor fixes and lets go beta!
Docs: 9 Feb 1991 Standard documentation
1.0: 19 Feb 1991 All well, no reports of problems, not much that can go wrong anyway, so lets release it (my first program to get to the release stage, though hardly first written).
Acknowledgements
Thanks must go to the great guys at Maxis Software for creating the wonderful SimCity game. If any of you or your distributors object to this program in any way, please let me know immediately—I don’t want to upset anyone with this…
About the SimCity Bank…
I am releasing the SimCity Bank as Freeware, which means that you may give it to anyone you like, and you don’t have to send me any money (though I wouldn’t be offended if you did!) Also, you may not charge anything for it, apart for the usual Freeware distribution charges. However, I ask that you send me a letter, postcard or e-mail to register as a user of this program (even if you don’t use it much!) as I maintain a database of my registered users, even for Freeware such as this. If you didn’t get this program from the Dejal Userware disk directly, please make sure you let me know where you got it from. Also, you may be interested in other programs written by me, including some high quality Shareware applications. Write to the address below, or contact me via e-mail, for more information. If you want to receive the Dejal Userware disk, send US$5 or provide your credit card details (I can accept VISA, MasterCard, Bankcard and American Express, as well as cash & checks in any major currency or international money orders) — I can even accept credit card orders via e-mail!
If you find any bugs, or would like any improvements done, please write to me and I’ll do my best to help you. Remember, this program is Freeware, not Shareware, so it is nowhere as good as my Shareware products, and hasn’t had anywhere near as much testing as them. Don’t judge the quality of my paying Shareware efforts based on free hacks like this one. Of course, I can accept no responsibility for any loss in profits, damage or whatever occurring from the use of this program (though let me know if anything like that happens!)
